I'm Kimberley-Nicholl Thomas a strong and proud disabled woman, wife and mum to 4 beautiful young adults.
Our children are working hard for their future. With a young dog grooming business starter, a social work University student, a computing and game design college student and a strong army soldier.
Education and business development is something I am proud to encourage not only in my family, but also within our community. I myself am a Biomedical science mature student at the University of Hull.
I believe everyone has a spark inside them, and with the right support could be sparked into a roaring fire and a successful future for them.
I am a proud business owner myself, renovating and developing affordable rental properties to families. Something that is in short supply.
Something I've worked hard to provide after struggling in a family with minimal funds growing up and also struggling to fund suitable rental accommodation as a young adult and mother.
This is one subject that I aim to tackle. I would like to see stricter rules to prevent family homes being bought by investors (from out of the area) to be changed into flats or into holiday homes. Ensuring that there is an equal balance of family sized rental and purchasable accommodation available within Bridlington, with holiday let's strongly regulated. Ensuring there is affordable homes for families is a vital within our community. As is ensuring that financial capital gains are spent within Bridlington and not sent out of the area, supporting our infrastructure, hospital, police and community services.
During lockdown people felt scared, insecure of the unknown. I stood up and held my heart upon sleeve, and I created the Coronavirus Resources List for Bridlington and surrounding areas.
Via the list I helped thousands of people throughout our area to feel safe and supported, and my passion for helping others grew stronger.
I was extremely privileged to be awarded Bridlington Echo Town Hero, voted for by our community.
This further ignited my internal fire to help our community to thrive and my campaigning passion was born.
My goal is to help the communities of the East Riding of Yorkshire to thrive, to help Bridlington thrive, and offer care for our community from an honest, open and compassionate view.
I am currently working alongside numerous community groups by supporting, and listening to your hope, dreams and concerns within Bridlington and surrounding areas. Including The Hinge, charitable organisations, support groups, Humberside Police CAG, VAWAG of Humberside police, Bridlington health forum and many more.
I aim to continue to contribute in any way that I can. I have therefore created 'The Community Support Tree'. A Non profit organisation that supports links between Bridlington and East Riding organisations and local residents. Offering an intermediary link to ensure your voices are heard and the correct supportive signposting is offered. I shall always do my best to support our community because I know myself what it is like to feel unsupported and let down by authorities.
I think climate Change is the biggest threat to our way of life and is fast becoming recognised as a critical threat to our children's future. I fully support the actions to limit global warming and increase biodiversity. I fully support these actions and hope to join the voices for our environment.
In fact, I will also add that I've invested in solar panel energy for my own property to further invest in bringing Bridlington into an area of climate rescue and protection.
I also wish to continue the fight alongside my conservative peers to stop the decline of Bridlington Hospital and bring back the services we have lost. There has been too many false promises and not enough delivery for our community, the NHS must listen to us and address our needs!
Sitting alongside Humberside Police on multiple occasions including, those preventing violence against women and girls, community advisory groups and 'You said, We did'; I promise to continue to become an integral part of our community, constantly listening to your concerns, aims and wants, and most importantly, ensuring you are heard, and support is offered.
I will be a straight talking, empathetic Councillor sat upon the council benches, fighting for the needs of our communities. I want to see:
Better SEN and disability support, including social care
A Stronger, safer community
Better roads and transport links
An active hospital and accessible medical care, including mental health care
Community Support
Education opportunities
Arts opportunity
Support for local enterprises, entrepreneurs, and public houses.
The list is endless but I want to let you know that I am listening. I am taking vital notes.
On May 4th 2023 I aim to run in our Local elections in the hope I may be elected by our great town to become an East Riding Councillor. So that I may ensure that your voices are heard, and your thoughts are put into action within our council and community.
Let's make Bridlington even greater, together!
