It is an honour to be an Officer of the EYCCA, 3 times as DC for Memberships and the Branch Support Officer. These two posts are linked and as a Membership Officer, I was proud to receive a National Award from Central Office for increase in memberships over the then past 10 years.
As an Officer on the Area Committee for 6 years, I had the pleasure to visit nearby Associations in Beverley, Selby Harrogate and Skipton to see the excellent work done by volunteers of the Party. This helped me to learn new ideas and in 2019 I was appointed Branch Support Officer at EYCCA.
For some time there had been a proposal to amalgamate the 3 Bridlington Branches, which I fully supported, and I was delighted when this was agreed between the 3 existing Branch Chairmen. This Branch is ably Chaired by John Copsey and is currently the leading Branch for Memberships, closely followed by the Weighton Branch, which I am delighted to Chair.
The Pocklington Branch has now a new Chairman in the very able Richard Haynes who was a past successful Chairman of the Association some years ago. With former long-standing Chairman, Kay West and her son Paul on the Committee, they can only go from strength to strength. With the new house building in that Branch, they could be top of the Membership list.
East Wolds & Coastal Branch have been well run by Jonathan Owen as Chairman with committee members Jane Evison and Paul Lissiter.
The Driffield Branch has a new Chairman in Maura Lee who I know will be ably assisted by her husband, Michael who is the current DC for Memberships on the Association and past Area & Regional Chairman of the Conservative Party. They are assisted by Felicity Temple and Charlie Dewhurst, the Association’s DC Events Organizer. Charlie brings energy, youth and new ideas to this Branch, and this could become the leading Branch in the Association.
Finally, the Weighton Branch, which I currently Chair. There we have youth and enthusiasm in Leo Hammond, who is DC Political on EYCCA, Sue Giles, our long-standing President, David Gough, a stalwark member over many years, and Mike Stathers, former Chairman of the Association. He brings his Professional PR skills and journalistic skills to the Branch, which has been one of the leading fund raisers both for membership and Events over the past 10 years.
We always welcome new helpers in the Branches in what is one of the most successful Conservative Associations in the country.
Over the past 35 years I have been proud to represent the Wolds Weighton Ward at District level and as a Town Councillor.
In 2002 I retired from my Profession as an Insurance Agent /Financial Adviser after 31 years and have devoted most of my time to try to make a difference in the Ward and improve people’s lives where possible.
In 2010 I was proud to be elected Chairman of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and enjoyed a year of meeting many voluntary workers in the District who were making a difference to many local people’s lives.
Since 1965 I have been a member of All Saints Church, Market Weighton serving as a Sidesman and now as a member of the Parochial Church Council and Church Estate Trustee.
In the Ward I have support funding for many local Groups from Commuted Sums funded by the housebuilders, and at Planning stage supported the Windfarm at Sancton which funds many local voluntary Groups also.
I regularly attend Parish Council Meetings and advise and liaise with the East Riding on local issues.
I am committed to local services and my career in the Private Service Industry gave me the background to support and help constituents.
